Independent Future Executive Senior Sales Director Ann Sherman believes in showing her convictions. She, her unit and thousands of women around the country are now wearing custom-designed buttons displaying the words “Kiss Domestic Violence Goodbye.”
Deeply moved by the murder of University of Virginia student Yeardley Love, Ann committed to be a strong voice against domestic violence. At her weekly meeting, she asked her unit to sell hundreds of Limited-Edition* Beauty that Counts® Mary Kay® Creme Lipsticks to support Mary Kay’s campaign, which donates $1 from each sale in the United States to The Mary Kay FoundationSM.
As a way to talk about domestic violence and raise awareness of the Foundation’s work, Ann also introduced the idea of wearing a button with a message. The initiative generated immediate support!
“I want to do something to help stop the violence,” Ann fervently declares. “The story of the college student being killed in the prime of her life hit me so hard. We need to speak out, and wearing these buttons is one way to do that.”
Within an hour after her meeting, Ann had the buttons designed. A few days later, she collected orders for 7,500. Then, Independent National Sales Director Maggie Nevárez requested 3,000 buttons in Spanish. Independent Elite Executive Senior Sales Director Connie Russo, Independent Executive Senior Sales Director Pat Nuzzi, and Independent Senior Sales Director Linda Quillin helped spread news of the buttons across the country. Now, orders from other Independent Sales Directors keep flowing in.
"We Mary Kay women are powerful," says Ann. “I believe we have more influence than we realize. We must teach boys and men that violence is not acceptable. We must show women how to recognize love and control. Awareness is key. Now we have the means to make even more of a difference.”
Area customers are championing the cause as well by purchasing ten Beauty that Counts® Mary Kay® Creme Lipsticks at a time and sporting the buttons. Independent Beauty Consultants are generously donating a portion of their profits to the Foundation for each of the lipsticks they sell.
“My goal is to sell as many of the limited-edition* lipsticks as possible,” states Ann. “This is a terrific opportunity to assist women in so many ways and help end domestic violence. It’s impressed me beyond belief how women will step up for this cause.”
