“Fathers and father figures play a big role in raising confident, secure girls and setting them up for healthy relationships down the road,” emphasizes Independent Senior Sales Director Stacia Christenson.
“As the mother of two sweet daughters, ages 7 and 12, I want to ensure they have positive, strong bonds with their dad starting early in life. This foundation can have a lasting impact on them choosing good relationships throughout their lives.”
When the idea of holding a father-daughter dance to celebrate those powerful bonds surfaced at a 2016 Seminar breakfast for The Mary Kay Foundation℠ Ambassadors, Stacia instantly decided to organize one in her community near Lake Minnetonka, Minn.
Within a month, she arranged an enchanted evening for 4 to 10-year-old girls and their dads at a local dinner theater, featuring: balloon corsages; an Italian buffet dinner; dancing; photographs with balloon backdrop; and interaction with live character princesses.
“Our amazing community members and businesses stepped up with donations to support the event and the Foundation,” explains Stacia. “Even our professional dee jay, an eighth-grade boy, was so moved by the cause he spontaneously offered to contribute his services.”
Stacia highlighted the need for love and respect as she presented alarming statistics showing one in three teens in the U.S. will experience physical, sexual or emotional abuse by someone they are in a relationship with.
“I collaborated with people who believe in this cause,” states Stacia. “Everyone was eager to help the Foundation, especially through a local event that ultimately nurtured healthy relationships between dads and daughters. It's a good feeling when what you do makes a difference in someone's life.”
