When 10-year-old Hanna Vos received a school assignment to portray a notable person who changed the face of history, her heart immediately knew her choice: she would select Mary Kay Ash!
“I’ve been touched at a very young age by Mary Kay,” says Hanna, daughter of Independent Sales Director Stephanie Vos. “I grew up in a Mary Kay home, and I always knew she was much, much more than just a business woman.”
“To learn more about Mary Kay, I read her books, watched her videos and asked a lot of questions. Everyone in my class, including my teacher, was surprised to learn about all the things Mary Kay Ash accomplished. She did so much for women. She started The Mary Kay FoundationSM, which continues to support several important causes affecting women today.”
For her class presentation, Hanna transformed herself into a little Mary Kay Ash by wearing a blonde wig, a pearl bumble bee pin and dressing in period attire: a rented vintage suit, a pearl necklace and pearl earrings. She created an entire educational table display including a biography of Mary Kay, photographs and cherished quotations.
More than 150 school event attendees marveled at her knowledge and poise as they interviewed her as if she were Mary Kay.
“As a mom, it was one of my proudest moments,” remarks Stephanie. “Hanna poured over Mary Kay's books and videos to compile her story. She was diligent about portraying Mary Kay so people could see her heart. I could just feel Mary Kay smiling down her approval.”
I remember Hanna telling me with awe in her voice, ‘Mom, I wish I could have met Mary Kay. She's so amazing!’ It made me so proud to see how the Mary Kay legacy will carry forward.”
Not only did Hanna touch many minds and hearts with her school presentation, she also enchanted a crowd of more than 100 from Des Moines, Iowa, and the surrounding area, with her portrayal at the Dream Central Party with a Purpose!
The brainchild of Independent Senior Sales Director Kathleen Deal, the May 6, 2010, event invited guests to relax and rejuvenate with a summer color experience at the Dream Central Training Center.
Magic sparkled in the air as Tinkerbell, Independent Beauty Consultant Ivy Menke, and Fairy Godmother, Independent Beauty Consultant Amanda Seiberling, flew in for a surprise entrance! Waving pink wands, they spread goodwill by handing out gifts from Sales Directors for $5 donations, prize tickets for jewelry drawings and product gifts donated by Independent Sales Directors.
Party goers also heard heartfelt stories from cancer survivors about the importance of The Mary Kay Foundation’s work, leading them to raise a collective $1,130 donation to the Foundation.
“Mary Kay teaches us how to extend love and affirm people,” says Kathleen. We designed the evening so that our guests had an extraordinary and delightful time.”
In addition to Kathleen and Stephanie, the charmed affair was lovingly orchestrated by Independent Senior Sales Directors Danita Roberts and Lyndell Sheets; and Independent Sales Directors Sandra Benner; Mary Bloom; Diana Bowlby; Fran Chiodo; Stacy Foust; Alyssa Harland; Andrea Mead; Lori Schultze; Karen Schwartzkopf; and Stephanie Tran.
“I love what this Company and The Mary Kay Foundation stand for,” states Kathleen. “Because I have a strong belief in Mary Kay Ash, and I have overcome cancer, I couldn’t be more passionate about supporting the Foundation’s mission.”
